Generally we observe that most ofthe times students are asking about best coaching classes available for them, but remember coaching can only support you in your preparation but they can’tprepare you for examination. For your convenience, we have tried to break down the topics/subjectsand give you a list of best books for IIT JEE among which you may choose yoursuitable combination. We also have student reviews for these books which mayhelp you by giving an insight into the experiences of other students like you. Most important step forany serious JEE aspirant is ‘wise selection of books’. Number of books doesn’tmatter; don’t follow 3-4 books for each topic. There are some standards booksavailable in market, follow those only. Generally I see many students followdifferent books for JEE Advanced, JEE Main and BITSAT, please don’t follow thisway. Read only those books that will help you to build your concepts. One more importantpoint that you should keep in mind, every book is biased in favor of theauthor’s specialized skills, so it’s not necessary to solve each bookcompletely. Choose different books to understand different topics based ontheir specialization. Remember thatthere will be a lot of students taking JEE along with you. IIT-JEE 2014: 5 smart strategies for serious students

IIT-JEE 2014: 5 smart strategies for serious students:

IIT-JEE 2014: 5 smart strategies for serious students

What do you need to do to score well for IIT-JEE? How many questions do you attempt every day? This article is for students who are serious about JEE and getting into the IITs. ------------------------------ APPROACH TO JEE ------------------------------ You will need to spend around three or four years practicing for JEE if you want to do well. JEE is only for students who have numerical aptitude and their skills and interests are towards engineering. Do not attempt JEE if that is what your parents, family or friends put pressure on you and your Maths is weak. #MUST READ: IIT-JEE 2014: Recommended reference books ------------------------------ STRATEGY FOR SERIOUS STUDENTS ------------------------------ Remember that JEE is more analytical than what you are used to. You need to make sure that you score well for your Class 11 as well as your Class 12 board exams. You need to be mentally prepared. 1. Solve between 60-80 questions from the day you start preparing This number includes all sections - Set realistic targets and plan the next day’s work in advance - If you can do 100 problems, don’t set the target to 150 2. Set a time limit when you attempt questions Speed is important in doing well in JEE. Make sure your score improves with time 3. Solve past year papers for at least 10 years Do this in addition to the 60-80 questions that you have done for each day. - Look for changes in the number of questions from areas and the pattern 4. Find short-cuts You will find shorter ways of solving problems using logic as you solve more problems - Develop a separate technique to handle all three subjects - Spend more time on subjects that you are not that strong in 5. Keep up to date with changes for JEE (Mains) and Advanced It’s important that you keep up to date with any changes. Your board exam is now important for JEE. Only students who are in the top 20 percentile of their boards qualify for JEE (Advanced).

IIT Delhi brightens up south Delhi slum

IIT Delhi brightens up south Delhi slum:

IIT Delhi brightens up south Delhi slum

The students of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Delhi will take up the task of illuminating the slums in Munirka, south Delhi through a solar lighting project, an official statement said.
IIT-Delhi is working on the project in collaboration with My Sister Foundation of India, a non-governmental organisation (NGO).
The project titled "Liter of Light" has already provided 55W light to three households in the slums.
"The plastic coke and water bottles are filled with water and suspended from the roof of the house. With the simple concept of refraction of light from denser to rarer medium, the light is generated through the light from the sun," Revant Soni, a student working on the project told IANS.
In the slums, shanties are so close to each other that hardly any sunlight reaches there forcing dwellers to keep the lights on even in daytime.
With these bottles, it helps cut down a lot on the electricity consumption.
The project has been put into implementation following the research undertaken for three months.
"The first three installations were done by the students but now we have explained the procedure of installation to the community members and they would be completing the project," added Soni.
Around 25 students, including volunteers of IIT-Delhi, have worked for the development of the project.
