Institutes such as IIT, NIT are well known for their teaching standards and therefore they are first choice of students who wish to pursue engineering.

But not every student is capable of qualifying the rigorous entrances that these institutes conduct to admit students. These students have to face a big problem of choosing a good engineering college.

Here are a few tips about how to choose a good engineering college.

#1 Institute

The first thing to verify before applying to a particular college is its accreditation and affiliation.

In India, National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation holds value and for engineering colleges, they need to be approved by University Grants Commision (UGC) and affiliated to Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

#2 Faculty

Another important factor you need to verify is the faculty of the college.

You can visit the college website to check their qualification, experience and information about where they have studied.

A faculty member who is active in research will normally have a better understanding of the latest developments in the area and therefore be in a position to explain better.

The number of faculty members is also important as the faculty to student ratio is an important aspect affecting the quality of education. 

#3 Infrastructure

This is the second important factor that students need to check as the environment in the institute also has a huge impact on academic performance.

Apart from that the classrooms, laboratory, library, recreational facilities, canteen can be checked by actually visiting the institute. A fully-residential campus usually provides a better learning environment.

#4 Internships & Placements

Last but not the least factor is placement and internships. Students can check the record of which companies visit the institute for campus placements. You can talk to the students to find out details like:

- How many students get placed in good companies? 

What are the packages that are offered to them? 

- Which are places that students visit for internship from that institute? 

- What kind of training are they provided over there?
